IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic
The best way to crime committed by young adults is to teach parents parenting skills. To what extent do you agree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.
Model Answer:
Every day, the newspapers are filled with news related to crimes committed by youth. With the passage of time, the frequency of these events has increased at an alarming pace. Multiple elements in the society contribute to this situation, but parents are mostly held accountable for the wrong actions of their children.
Some people argue that the surge in crime rate is due to lack of parenting skills among parents, particularly in families with a single parent. So, as they hold parents solely responsible for destruction of their children's life, they argue that improvement is only possible if institutions specialized in teaching parenting skills to inexperienced parents will help to control the situation.
In my opinion, though the vital role of parents in upbringing of their children cannot be denied, they cannot be blamed for everything. The overall society has immense responsibility towards the upcoming generations. Mostly, the youth is involved in street crimes, such as mobile or purse snatching. The main reason is the lust and attraction for materialistic things created by advertisements. Their immature minds are unable to understand the grave consequences of these otherwise minor looking crimes. It's their desire to gain everything overnight which drives them off the track. Here the role of society kicks in, whose responsibility is to build an environment where people feel contented with what they have, instead of making them greedy for what they don's possess.
Here it's very important to mention the role of judicial system and law enforcement agencies, who should make strong legislation against comes committed by young individuals and ensure its implementation in true spirits. The fear of being prosecuted will surely have an effect in reducing the criminal activities.
In conclusion, all the elements of the society, such as. educational institutions, parents, medicine houses, advertisement companies and judiciary have to collectivity make serious effects to groom the youth. Only teaching parenting skills to parents and ignoring other equally important factors will not provide as solution to this problem.

There is no doubt that the crime rate is rapidly increasing across the globe and it is noted that the majority of the crimes are done by youngsters. I agree, that parents definitely play a major role in the upbringing of a child and even parents need some consultation on how they can raise their child in a better way.
Firstly, gone are those days where the father was considered as the head of the family and he was the only one responsible for earning bread and butter for the family. As the world has become too competitive and the change in trends motivated and encouraged even the mothers to work in order to earn and have better living than before. This eventually, resulted in a lack of time spent in taking care of a child. It is believed and proved that a child’s brain is very fragile and delicate during his teenage and hence proper guidance and monitoring are very much required to prevent their kids from indulging in the bad company of friends.
Secondly, nowadays parents rely blindly on caretakers and give their child in the hand of nannies who are just concerned about their salaries and are least bothered about the all-round development of the child. According to a survey done by the lecturers of Boston University in 2018, in 90% of the families both father and mother are working and they rely on schools and child daycare institutes for the development of their children.
To conclude, even though parents never teach or want their child to get involved in any sort of criminal activity but at the same time, it is their duty to monitor their kid more closely and prevent him from getting into any negative energies around him.
