IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

Forests are the lungs of the earth. Destruction of the world's forests amounts to death of the world we currently know.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

 Plants and trees are the air purifying system of the earth. They not only add to the beauty of this world but are also important for regulating the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide around us. But with the increase in the use of wood products, forest are disappearing from the surface of earth. This essay will throw some light on how this unjustified cutting of forests is a threat to this world we call home.

With the increase in the trend of urbanization, forests are being demolished to create larger cities on those areas. For instance, if we take the example of Africa, many cities are being extended by destroying forests. Furthermore, since trees are the source of wood used in the construction process and making of furniture, they are constantly being knocked down. As a result, trees are vanishing but cities are expanding.

But the point to ponder is what is going to happen if this remains the case for the next few years. Trees act as an air filter system. They clean the air around us by absorbing all the carbon dioxide from the environment. In addition, they are the source of oxygen. Decreasing the number of forests means increasing the amount of carbon dioxide. As a result, there will be more pollution and less air to breathe around us.

The points I have considered lead me to the inevitable conclusion that forest and plants are extremely necessary for our survival. Since prevention is better than cure, steps should be taken to preserve them before it’s too late.
