You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

According to a recent study, the more time people use the Internet, the less time they spend with real human beings. Some people say that instead of seeing the Internet as a way of opening up new communication possibilities world- wide, we should be concerned about the effect this is having on social interaction.

How far do you agree with this opinion? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

A section of society is concerned about by the negative influence of Internet on in- person communication. A recent study also reiterates the same point and concludes that growing Internet use adversely affects communication between real human beings. I strongly disagree with this opinion and over the course of the essay will provide reasons for such disagreement.

On the contrary Internet has increased interpersonal communication. First of all, Internet has brought the world closer than ever. It has created borderless societies. Thanks to Internet, people keep in touch with faraway families seamlessly; students in remote areas who otherwise lacked supervision, stay connected with their teachers . For example, I stay far from my parents. But due to Internet, I am in regular touch with them through video conferencing and web messaging. Internet has not only made communication faster but also affordable. (Excellent paragraph)

Secondly, Internet has given birth to social media. Social media has emerged as the most powerful medium of communication in recent times. Millions of people across the world keep in touch with family and friends through social networking. Social media has mobilized netizens to come together and ponder upon current and political issues. For example, in Chennai students and common men interacted on various social networking sites and gathered for a  peacefully rally in support of Bullfighting. Such is the power of social media that a single distress tweet by a citizen stuck in a remote country mobilises the government to take action. This form of communication was unthinkable even a few years ago.  Evidently Internet has elevated inter personal communication to next level.

In conclusion, as has been shown above, Internet has opened new avenues of interpersonal communication. As a result societies have come closer more than ever.
