IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic
You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter:
- say why he/she would not enjoy going to college
- explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her
- suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her
Write at least 150 words.
Model Answer:
Dear Snenu,
I hope this letter finds you in the pink of health. I am honoured that you asked my advice about choosing your path. I think you should opt for being employed.
I don't recommend that you straight away jump to higher studies. Nowadays, in colleges, more focus is given on theoretic concepts rather than practical knowledge. I think you will find it boring if you can't understand complex theory.
Your vision to be a proficient computer programmer can only be achieved if you have hands on experience. Once you enter the IT industry, you will get a chance to work on real web and mobile applications. Aside from this, you can learn extra skills such as teamwork and time management.
As you don't have experience, you can apply for junior positions. You can either register in the recruitment websites such as seek or talk to senior students who are already working in IT companies.
I hope my suggestions will help you take the correct decision about your career.
Best wishes,
Chetna.
