IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

Your car is hired from a company and while you are driving on holiday, you have a small accident. You will have to write a report to the company to explain it.

Write a letter to the company. In your letter:
- when and where you hired it
- describe how the accident happened
- what kind of action did you take after the accident

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Sir,

I am writing to notify you about an unavoidable accident of the car: the SUV model of BMW, which I hired from your company outlet in Ahmedabad. I booked the car on August 1st for 5 days, as I was going on holiday along with my family to Mount Abu.

As the road to reach Mount Abu was zig-zag and narrow, all the vehicles ahead were moving at a steady pace. Unfortunately, a monkey ran in-front of our car, thus we had to apply sudden brake; as a result, our car was rear-ended by another vehicle.

Although it was not a major accident, the rear portion of the car was damaged and was in urgent need of repair; therefore, we got it repaired from the local shop in Mount Abu. I, not only took the bill from the shop, but also took the picture of the accident site and registered an FIR in the local police station, which will help you claim the insurance.

I request you to claim the insurance as soon as possible and refund me the repair cost.
