IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You eat at your favourite restaurant every day for lunch. You do not like the decor they have chosen.

Write the manager a letter telling him:

• What you think is great about the restaurant?
• What things you think need to be changed?
• Suggestions on ways to improve the decor?

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction of the decorations at ‘McG’s Restaurant’. I am a frequent daytime customer of the place.

I am utmostly satisfied with the delicacy options and the service. The menu has a variety of international culinary delights to choose from. In addition, the dishes are reasonably priced and so I don’t have to be frugal. Finally, the service provided by the staff is friendly and in a timely fashion.

However, I would like to suggest some changes. Firstly, the uncomfortable chairs may be swapped with those having soft cushions on them. Also, the waiting area could have sofas instead of short wooden tables.

I want to elicit certain improvements to the decor. A chandelier can be added in the center of the hall. In addition, the ambiance could be greatly increased if funky speakers are added to play slow music tunes. Also, an adjustable lighting system may be put in place to have a variable brightness in the room.
