IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

A friend agreed to look after your house and pet while you are on holiday.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
- give contact details for when you are away
- give instructions about how to care for your pet
- describe the household duties

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Sarah,

I hope this letter finds you in the pink of health. I would like to thank you for accepting my request to take care of my house and my dog while I would be vacationing next week. I leave at 10 am on Sunday and will be back by 6 pm next Saturday.

I just wanted to give you some information which I thought would be useful. First of all, whenever you have any question, ring me up at +1-123-456-7890, or shoot me an email at abc@gmail.com. Secondly, you can contact the apartment staff for general questions. A member should be available at the front door anytime.

The most important thing for my dog Suzy is walking. She gets irritated whenever I don't take her out. So, please make sure to take her around in the morning. The second thing is diet. I have placed all the dog biscuits in the cupboard in the top right corner of the kitchen. Please feed the dog twice every day.

You have two primary household duties that you need to take care of. The first thing is to make sure that the house is locked all the time. The second thing is to collect the mails that I receive during the week and keep them on the centre table in the living room. Also, don't forget to turn off the heater in the morning.
