IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer

Cities are getting big and overcrowding. Give some causes and suggest the solutions needed.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Model Answer:

It is commonly witnessed nowadays that urban areas are becoming large and congested due to mass migration of people from rural areas. In this essay, the reasons of this trend will be discussed along with some possible remedies.

To begin with, there are some obvious factors that cause the extension of metropolitans. Firstly, the outstanding living standards allure the countryside people towards cities because they cannot access such promising amenities like  healthcare services, education, transport system while living in rural areas, Secondly, a mass number of job opportunities are also available in mega cities, which attracts unemployed or  underemployed youngsters. Hence, in search of enhanced life people shift to urban areas, which results in over-population in big cities.

However, some efficient measures can be taken to alleviate this trend. One clear suggestion to clear the influx of masses to cities is to generate employment in the backwards areas. With this, the inhabitants will acquire lucrative jobs at their hometowns and eventually the tendency to move to developed areas will diminish. Moreover, judicious urban planning can assist to address the problem of over-crowding because a well-planned layout can curb the anticipated problems due to mass migration. Their effective  measures can indeed help to tackle the issue.

Upon a thorough analysis of the topic, it can be concluded that with a conscious urban layout and growth of industrialization in under-privileged regions, the overcrowdedness in urban areas can be curbed.
