Model Answer:

In today's world, with the boom in the sector of information and technology, communication with one another has become much faster than what it used to be about half a century ago. Earlier, our previous generation relied on formal, lengthy expressions for communication like letter writing; whereas, nowadays, we can communicate with another person at the other corner of the globe through the click of a button in seconds. We convey our thoughts and messages in fewer words by using an informal tone. This essay will analyze the reasons for this changing trend in the interpersonal forms of communication.

Undoubtedly, our interaction with one another has become short and crisp due to the following reasons. Firstly, life in today's world is much more hectic and time is at a premium. Since necessity is the mother of invention, the world today needs a mode of communication which is quick and saves time. For example, emails can be used within seconds; whereas, writing letters involves a lengthy and time-consuming process of writing, posting, and delivering it. Secondly, new methods of communication save for unnecessary work needed in collecting and distributing letters. This, manpower can be used elsewhere for other purposes. To illustrate, Indian postal department is facing difficulties to survive and is running at a loss of 30% because more and more people are shifting towards the use of emails and message delivery through phone via internet.

Moreover, due to the easy and pocket-friendly availability of smartphones and internet, one need not find a suitable place and time to write a letter. To illustrate, a recent survey conducted in the US showed that 58% of the people communicating both formally and informally during their travel to and from workplace using smartphones. This serves as a good utilisation of time. Additionally, all formal and informal forms of communication can be saved easily and compactly within a computer folder or phone for future reference and documentation. To illustrate, an official message sent via email can be ensured to have been delivered within seconds whereas it is time-consuming to track letters as well as keep them properly for future references. Last but not the least, people today have become much more informal in their mode of communication because it does not have to follow a particular pattern of writing and is definitely faster and convenient. For example, Whatsapp, Video Calls Messenger, and Skype have enabled us to cut short the number of words in writing or speaking by using the visual medium of communication which is undoubtedly more perceptible and hard-hitting than auditory medium like telephonic conversations. To specify, with the use of various emojis, one can convey an emotion through a click. Conversing through Skype decreases the number of spoken words as we can see the person on the other side and read the thoughts.

To conclude, since the world is getting busier and faster with the advent of globalization, men have resorted to shorter, crisper and faster ways of communication due to advancements in the field of technology. Just as each lock has a key, newer inventions are being made each day to solve our problem of a time crunch in today's fast-paced world.
