IELTS Writing Task 2 essay with model answer

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

More companies produce goods in the factories located in different countries other than the location of the head office. Does this development have more advantages or more disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

Most of the multinational companies build their products at manufacturing plants at other locations, when their head offices are located somewhere else. I am in consummate accord with this phenomenon as a number of benefits are associated with this phenomenon. 

Firstly, construction of plants at different locations will not only reduce the manufacturing cost but also provide us with an opportunity to make the best use of available resources. To illustrate, China provides the cheapest labor and utilities throughout the world. For a labor incentive or manufacturing industries, this is an ideal location to operate so that they can minimize their overhead cost; resultantly, selling price will also be reduced, and companies have a good chance to compete with competitors and make progress in future.

Secondly, more employment opportunities will be created for the underprivileged areas with lots of unexplored natural resources. For example, when a multinational company builds the dairy farms in a developing country where main source of income is from agricultural produce, then it creates jobs for the locals as well as plays a vital role in the development of the area. Moreover, head office employees also get the benefits as revenue generated from this plant is remitted to head office. In addition to that, a company also pays tax in its country of origin; ultimately government also gets its share.

To reiterate, I have logically concluded that due to the advancement in technology and transportation facilities, it is feasible now that we can use the natural resources wisely at their present location without shifting to another location and provide finished goods to end consumer at a reasonable price throughout the world.
