Model Answer:

Despite two-thirds of our emerald earth being covered by oceans, fresh water is a scarcely available luxury for most of the global population. Due to its unequal distribution, some countries remain dries than the rest of the world. Several problems have caused the scarcity of fresh water to become a worldwide crisis.

The most significant cause for this issue if the proliferating population. The problem arises when demand supersedes resource availability leading to an insufficient supply. In an attempt to keep up with the rising needs, the rate of water usage has dramatically increased, putting strain on the limited water supply available for human consumption.  Furthermore, widespread  pollution is  exacerbating the issue. Industries continue to dump toxic industrial wastes into open water bodies that not only destroys aquatic but also makes fresh water sources unfit for human use as they seep into groundwater systems. In 2015 alone, 254 tonnes of heavy metal containing substances were illegally released into rivers and oceans.

Governments must implement  stricter laws on industrial waste disposal. Public awareness can be raised by organizing workshops and programs that discuss  water pollution and water conservation. In addition, authorities need to fund research that aim to develop machinery that enables sea water purification into drinking water.  Individuals in the community can form local groups that clean up polluted areas such as beaches, parks and forests. Households too will contribute immensely  by using only the required amounts of water.

In conclusion, the fresh water supply is gradually diminishing due to the flourishing population and heightened pollution. Yet it is the duty of governing bodies and individuals to take corrective  steps for fresh water management.
