IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You will move to a new city for work. You know some people who live there.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
- ask them for help finding accommodation
- tell them where you would like to live
- tell them the kind of place you are looking for

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Sarah,

I hope you are doing great. I am really excited that my office has been moved to New York, specifically to the Manhattan area in downtown. I need your help in finding accommodation near my office in New York. Since you have been living there for the past thirty years.

I prefer to be as close as possible to my work location. I have been searching apartments in Manhattan, however, they need a local reference, and I cannot apply directly. It would be great if you could suggest me some apartments in that area and refer me. I am very particular with the cleanliness of the apartment and a responsible management. 

I have been searching for a studio apartment since I do not have a family accompanying me. Also, I need a spacious one! In terms of area, I do not prefer a studio which is less than 500 sq. ft. Furthermore, I need a balcony for the house. I am flexible on the price. 

I hope that you can help me find the right place and cannot wait to meet you.
