IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

A friend of yours is going on holiday soon and has asked you to recommend a destination.

Write a letter to your friend recommend a good place for a holiday that you have visited before. In your letter:
- say where you went, where you stayed
- what you can do there
- what the food was like

Write at least 150 words.

Dear John,

I hope you are doing great. I'm excited about your vacation. In your last letter, you asked me to suggest a good holiday spot. Among all the places that I have visited so far, my favourite destination is Minneapolis, the capital city of Minnesota.

I visited this place during my Fall break while I was pursuing my master's coursework. I absolutely loved this place; especially the lake walk at Lake Calhoun was amazing! Moreover, shopping at The Mall of America was one of my most pleasurable experiences. In addition, the rides in the mall were awesome. Apart from this, I do not have words to describe how much I enjoyed snow-tubing and hiking.

I stayed at the Hotel Marriott, located in downtown. The hotel was really good and the price was affordable. You should definitely have a lot of things that you can do. Apart from visiting places and shopping, you can try video games and fireworks on this place are famous for both of them. 

The food was so delicious. There were several hotels, restaurants, and food courts. I recall that I was so much impressed by the food in the Grandma's Hotel. You should try that food.
