- Give contact details for when you are away
- Give instructions about how to care for your pet
- Describe other household duties
Write at least 150 words.
Model Answer:
Dear Elena ,
Thank you for agreeing to help me out when I’m in Penang on holiday. I’m so grateful you could spare the time to take care of my pet rabbit, Bun Bun, and to look after my apartment when I’m away. I thought I’d write to you to give you some details about what I need you to do and to let you know how to contact me if you need to.
You main task is to feed Bun Bun and to clean his litter tray daily. Bun Bun is fed once a day in the morning with the hay that is stored in the cupboard in my living room. You should give him five large handfuls of the hay, and fill his water bowl with fresh water from the kitchen sink.
Besides that, it would be great if you could help me to empty the rubbish bin in the kitchen every day into the apartment’s waste collection bin in the room at the end of the corridor.
If you need to contact me, my mobile phone will remain switched on throughout my holiday. Please don’t hesitate to call in case you need further information or run into difficulties when I’m away.
See you soon at the end of the week! I promise to buy you lots of souvenirs from Penang.
Love,
Chris

Don’t you think on an exam we should write five instead of 5? (give him 5 large handfuls of the hay)
There is also one unnecessary comma in the sentence: ‘You should give him five large handfuls of the hay, and fill his water bowl with fresh water from the kitchen sink.’ Am I right or I don’t know something ?
Dear Max,
You should use a comma before any coordinating conjunction (and, but, for, or, nor, so, yet) that links two independent clauses.
For example: “I went running, and I saw a duck.”
For all other cases you do not need the comma. For example “I saw a duck and a pig.”
Hope this helps.
Atul.
You are right. I have edited the letter. It is best to use words for numbers.
