IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You will move to a new city for work. You know some people who live there. Write a letter to your friend.

• Ask them for help finding accommodation
• Tell them where you would like to live
• Tell them the type of place you are looking for

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Emily,

I hope you and your family are doing well. You must recall, I told you that I was applying for a diploma in Chemistry at Punjab College Lahore; well, I have been admitted for the Spring session. As you shared wonderful things about your city, I am really excited to finally come and live there. I am writing to ask for your help in finding me a suitable place to live while I am on the waiting list for the university hostel accommodation.

The university, as you know, is in central Lahore; therefore, I would like to rent out a place nearby so that commuting to the university will be easier. As I understand rents are quite high in that particular area, I would not mind sharing the place; however, I would definitely prefer a female roommate. Because the university administration has assured me that the hostel rooms will be available by the end of September, I will need to stay off campus for a maximum of two months.

Other than that I have no particular specifications. I would really appreciate your help in this matter. Let me know if you want anything from my hometown. Give my regards to your family.
