IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 with model answer
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The table shows social and economic indicators for four countries in 1994, according to United Nations statistics.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 Words.
Model Answer:
The table given lists social and economic parameters influencing the lives of citizen in four countries in different continents in 1996 according to a statistical study conducted by the United Nations.
According to the table, it is clearly seen that Japan was the best country in terms of annual income per person (15,760$ US), life expectancy at birth (78 years) as well as adult literacy rate (99%). Canada, did not fall beyond Japan, and came at the second place for annual income per person at 11,000$ US and also for life expectancy at 76 years. Both Canada and Japan had identical adult literacy rate at 99%.
On the other hand, Peru and Zaire, both dramatically lower figures; annual income per person with less than 2% of the income for the Canadians or the Japanese. Further more, life expectancy in those two countries was almost 30 years lower than in Canada and Japan. As expected, adult literacy rate in both countries were also lower; however, the number of literate people in Peru was double the number in Zaire at 68% and 36% respectively. Daily calorie supply per person in Peru and Zaire was 1927 and 1769 respectively, which was sharp in contrast to calorie supply per person in Canada and Japan. which was conspicuously higher and stood at 3326 and 2846 respectively.
