Model Answer:
A section of society desists change while others embrace it. I personally believe that progress is impossible without change and opine that change is good for the society. In the course of this essay I will discuss both viewpoints.
People who resist change do it for various reasons. Primarily they are paranoid about the unknown and therefore avoid trying new things. Such behavior crop up from insecurity and fear of failure. For example,in spite of changing times and news avenues to explore, parents in most of the middle class families in India encourage their children to be engineer or doctor. This archaic mentality has stemmed from rampant unemployment and poverty in their times.
On the other hand, the only constant thing in life is change. Human beings are blessed with curiosity and intelligence. Due to these traits, we have progressed from stone age to modern age. When we embrace change, we progress to great heights. For example, the first computer that were built were housed in big warehouses. A section of society laughed at the invention and predicted its failure. But the change agents were unfazed by the criticism and focused on the improvement of the system;rest as we know is history. Another instance is, the invention of electric bulb. Thomas Edison failed thousand times before he invented electric bulb. His famous quote was “I have not failed. I have just found 1000 ways that did not work”. Therefore there are numerous arguments to support that change has acted as premise for advancement of human race.
Having considered a range of arguments, I have concluded that embracing change is the way forward; for betterment of society and greater good.
