Model Answer:
This bar chart compares the number of vehicles owned by Chinese people in the period of twelve years between 1987 and 1999.
Firstly, the number of cars per thousand people stood at around 300 vehicle in 1987. This figure almost doubled by late eighties to reach just above 500 vehicle per thousand people. In addition, vehicle ownership rose steadily during early mid nineties to reach around one thousand vehicle per thousand people.
On the other hand, the rate of increase in vehicle ownership skyrocketed during the second half of nineties. To begin with, around 2000 vehicles were owned by every one thousand Chinese individuals. This figure grew by around 1000 in 1997 to approximately 3000 vehicle per thousand people. Lastly, the number of vehicles per thousand exceeded to 4100 by the end of the given period. Furthermore, it is interesting to mention that the number of vehicles per thousand people in China in 1999 was double the number in 1995 and more than 13 times the figure in 1987.
To conclude, it can be clearly seen that the number of vehicles experienced a substantial upward trend throughout the whole period.
