Model Answer:

In this past couple of decades, the travel industry has emerged as one of the fastest growing industries in the world. It is the mainstay for many countries in uplifting their falling economies.   While arguments have been raised about the negative impacts that accompany the growth of this industry, these negatives certainly do not override the associated benefits.

To begin with, the increase in the number of tourists to a country will obviously lead to many prospects in terms of employment generation and local entrepreneurship. This will, in turn, boost the local economy of the state and attract foreign investors towards a nation. It should also be emphasized that the government would invest on the local infrastructure development, provide better transportation and hospitals and ensure harmony in the state to attract the holidaymakers. Italy is a classic example of the economy that revolves around the travel sector completely and it has been able to uplift its socio-economic status through this industry.

On the other hand, the rising influx of international travellers is associated with increased crime rates and anti-social activities like gambling, drugs and child trafficking which affect the indigenous society. The local population is also affected by the manifold increase in the property values. Environmentalists are worried about the harmful impacts on the nature reserves and historical monuments because of the increased tourist activities. In this scenario, it is worth mentioning that the police department would ensure the safety of the foreign tourists by enforcing stern laws and by implementing strict rules and regulations, which in turn would curb the negative impacts of tourism.

In conclusion, I would strongly recount that, although the growth in the travel industry is accompanied with few negative impacts, these definitely do not outweigh the contribution that tourism has made towards the socio-economic development.
