Some people believe that teaching children at home is best for a child's development while others think that it is important for children to go to school.

Discuss the advantages of both methods and give your own opinion.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

A section of society believes that homeschooling is best for a child’s overall development. While others opine that formal school education is necessary for a child’s comprehensive growth. I strongly believe that formal education is essential for a child’s overall development and over the course of this essay with discuss both the viewpoints.

There are various reasons why people believe that homeschooling is best for a child’s future. Primary reason is that a child feels safe and comfortable in a home atmosphere. Consequently, the child is less distracted and can focus his full energy on learning new things. Another reason is that parents know best their child’s weaknesses and strengths. As a result parents can develop a customised study plan to iron out their ward’s weaknesses and help them to excel. For example, when I was a kid, I was paranoid about mathematics. My father used interactive learning techniques to make mathematics interesting to me. That really helped and I started loving numbers. Over the years, maths became one of my favourite subjects and I credit homeschooling for the success; after all, charity begins at home.

On the other hand, formal school education is an accepted societal norm and has several benefits. Teachers in schools are well qualified and certified to impart in-depth knowledge about various subjects.Teaching methodologies in school are scientifically formulated to aid in a child’s overall development. Another reason is that school education teaches a child to be a team player and develop healthy competitive behaviour. It is necessary for the child to help fellow children and at the same time excel in what they do. For example, when I was in school, we were taught to help our classmates who were relatively weaker in studies. Teaching like these imbibed team spirit and healthy competition in me. Therefore it is abundantly clear that formal education is absolutely necessary for a child’s comprehensive growth.

Having considered a range of arguments, I have concluded that advantages of formal school education far outweigh homeschooling. From scientific teaching methodologies to imbibing healthy competitive nature, advantages of school education are far and wide.
