Model Answer:

One of the highly controversial issues today relates to whether the era of visual communication is dominating how people are currently interacting with the community or books are still in the lead. I strongly agree with the former view due to several reasons that I will discuss in detail in my essay.

On one side of the argument, there are people who argue that the benefits of modern visual technology outweigh its disadvantages. The main reason for this is that digital imaging is becoming more readily accessible to all sectors of the community. It is also possible to say that the new teaching academies/ institutes are increasingly adopting digital imaging technology such as videos and presentations. One good illustration of this is Khan Academy, which uses digital video technology and internet to provide educational material to users all over the world. Therefore, it is easy to see why this argument has gained support.

On the other hand, it is also possible to make an opposing case. It is often argued that written word and books will remain the strongest way of delivering information in today’s world. People often have this opinion because books are easily available and there is no need to use special equipment or internet for accessing books. A second point is that a large number of people who read written material simply enjoy the mere idea of holding a book in their hands to read it. A particularly good example here is the existence of libraries that sell very old books and scripts to plenty of people who are interested in such vintage material. Thus, it goes without saying that that this viewpoint is credible and realistic too.

Having considered a range of arguments, I have drawn the conclusion that although written material is still useful and widely used, the advantages provided by modern day graphic modalities will outweigh the positives of any older methods of communication in the near future.
