You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You were sent by your manager to a conference in May 2016. The manager wants you to report about new improvements in your industry.  

Write a letter to your manager. In your letter

• give details of the conference

• explain what new improvements in your industry you have learnt about
• suggest what future action the manager can take to include these 
improvements in your workplace

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Mr Smith,

I am writing in regards to the conference which I attended in May this year.

I was appointed to attend the conference held in Manchester. During the conference, many experts from prestigious institutions, such as World Bank and the Bank of England, gave a series of keynote speeches regarding our industry, and some of these speeches were fairly insightful and encouraging.

From these speeches, I have known that owing to the recent plunge in British Sterling, there is a dramatic improvement in our export industry’s economic climate as our products will be priced lower in foreign currencies. Consequently, our export has gained a competitive advantage.

Based on this information, I would like to suggest that we should invest more money in expanding our business as our export will benefit from this decline in the value of Pound. In addition, if we can relocate some of our overseas factories to Britain, we will effectively reduce the cost of production.
