In the modern world, the image (photograph or film) is becoming a more powerful way of communicating than the written word.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Model Answer:

In the age of technology, it has been argued that messages can be delivered more effectively through pictures and movies as compared to writing. I partially agree with this statement and in the following paragraphs, I will shed some light on the arguments in favor of and against the of subject matter topic.

Firstly, it has been proved by scientist through numerous researches that one’s mind is more receptive when someone visualizes things. This is the reason due to which projectors are being used in schools and colleges. Secondly, when we are delivering messages or communicating with to someone through images, no specific traits or skills are required by the recipient. Resultantly, nowadays we can observe that government and welfare organizations are conveying public awareness messages through advertisement on television.  

However, on the other hand, as per a recent survey conducted by an NGO, it has been established that still major part of the population communicates in black and white. This trend is dominating in developing countries where majority of the population still have no access to televisions or internet. In addition to that it has also been noted that in offices, emails and printed letters are being used as a way of formal communication. Moreover, doubtlessly, writing is a cheap way of communication.  

Keeping in view the facts discussed above, I have come to a conclusion that images can be a better way of communication with respect to specific aspects only; for example, delivering lectures or communicating to masses etc. On the other hand, writing is an efficient and more sophisticated way of conveying messages, specially in offices.
