Many countries are currently witnessing an increase in criminal activity among young people. Discuss reasons for this phenomenon and suggest ways to deal with the problem.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Model Answer:

Majority of the nations are facing burgeoning crime rate among the younger generation. In this essay, I will illustrate the factors contributing to this phenomenon and then elicit certain steps to mitigate this trend.

There are compelling reasons for the rise in criminal activity among today’s youth. The primary factor is drug addiction and the need to sustain its exorbitant price for daily usage. Thus, younger people resort to crime as it is an easy route for financial remuneration. After all, money makes the world spin. In addition, the youth have become more materialistic, and like to own an avalanche of products such as fancy transportation, digital hardware and so on. Therefore, they may engage in theft and illegal activities if these needs are not satisfied. Moreover, their negligence towards tertiary education may lead them to choose the world of crime. Consequently, these factors catalyze the surge in criminal activities among young people.

However, parents and governments can enact certain steps to reverse the global phenomenon of ascending crime rate in today’s youth. First of all, parents have to provide meticulous guidance to the younger people. For instance, the daily calendar of younger ones may be placed under constant scrutiny for immoral activities. Furthermore, governments can provide awareness campaigns on the effects of crime to society as well as on individual’s future. Finally, strict drug laws can be enforced on the younger generation. Therefore, these steps will help in the mitigation of criminal activity among young people.

Having considered a range of arguments, I have drawn the conclusion that the factors leading to the burgeoning crime rate among the younger generation are due to the cost of drug addiction, satisfying materialistic needs and ignorance of tertiary education. But, parents can meticulously guide the younger people; governments can provide crime awareness campaigns and enact stringent drug law enforcement among the younger ones.
