Model Answer:

I am in consummate accord with the statement that trees perform the same role as our lungs do in the human body; that is, the purification of environment. I also agree that jungles are part and parcel for the survival of human beings. In this essay, I will illustrate significant benefits of forests and also shed some light over the negative impacts on our lives due to the destruction of forests.

There are numerous advantages of jungles. Firstly, they act as natural filters and purify the environment from toxic elements. Secondly, they play a vital role in controlling the temperature by converting carbon dioxide into oxygen, which resultantly reduces the green house effect. In addition to that woodlands are also important as they act as natural habitat to many species. Lastly, forests are major source of natural fertilizers.

It is pertinent to mention that advantages of forests have played an important role in the destruction too. Trees are being cut down so that they can be used in furniture industry or as fuel to cook food etcetera. Residential colonies are being build by chopping these trees. According to a meticulous survey, around 50% of the forests have been removed from the face of the earth since its inception.

As a result of this devastation, we are facing many problems like global warming and distinction of numerous species from this planet. Ozone layer is being depleted as not enough recycling plants, in shape of trees, are available to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. Due to increase in the temperature, glaciers, major source of consumable waters, have also melted and wasted in the sea water.

After considering the above mentioned points, I have logically concluded that it is difficult to survive without trees. A stitch in times saves nine ; we need to urgently adopt some measures to tackle this problem head-on, else it will be too late to handle the situation.
