Model Answer:

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of tests done on animals. These practices have sparked a heated debate on whether this should  be allowed. In this essay, I will examine the question from both sides and then give my own opinion on the matter.

On one side of the argument, there are people who argue that there are several advantages to animal experiments. The main reason for believing this is that tests done on animals have contributed positively to the improvement of health care and to the increase in life expectancy of many people. A good illustration of this it that vital drugs such as antibiotics which have been previously tested on mice (mice is the plural of mouse), are now used every day to cure many life-threatening diseases. Without animal experiments, this would not have been possible. Thus, it is crystal clear that animal testing is  crucial for medical researches.

On the other hand, it is also possible to make the opposing case. It is often argued that animal experiments have various disadvantages. People have this opinion because experiments are not only limited to medical purposes. A particularly good example of this is a study published by Animal Rights Association that concluded that the vast majority of tests are done for the cosmetic industry . A second point is that these creatures are able to feel the pain. It is therefore unethical and cruel  to make them suffer just to make a useless product such as an anti-aging cream. Thus, it goes without saying that this point of view is credible and realistic.

Having considered both opinions, I have drawn the conclusion that both arguments have their merits. On balance, however, I tend to believe that the benefits for humanity outweigh the drawbacks. It is hoped that alternative methods to those experiments in medical research will be found in order to limit these practice.
