Model Answer:

Dear Jim,
Hope this letter finds you in the pink of health. Recently, you wrote to me seeking career guidance about joining college or trying to find a job. I am glad that you asked. I sincerely believe that you should get a job.

To begin with, having known you for years, I think you will not enjoy the conventional and theoretical knowledge imparted in college. Your forte lies in hands- on knowledge, and college education might disappoint you.

Secondly, you are very good at computer coding. Such skills are in high demand and you could very well end up in a coveted job. Also, you can save money to fund your college education, if you wish to pursue it in the future.

Finally, I suggest joining one of the leading technology startups. They have an informal culture and foster innovation. You could very well contribute with your coding and analytical skills.

Feel free to write to me if you need to discuss further. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards,
Christian

    Dear ?
I checked the verb “suggest ” in a dictionary, and it is said that:

Do not say ‘suggest (someone) to do something’. Say suggest doing something or suggest that someone (should) do something.

    But in your letter:
Finally, I suggest you to join technology startups.

    excuse me, HI
words like forte or coveted job, are those counted as formal? im afraid this letter might be marked as not consistent in tone. am i wrong ?

    Dear Irene,

A few formal words do not change the overall tone of the letter. There are still many informal elements in the letter such as use of informal phrases like “in the pink of health”, contractions such as “won’t”, and using “Best” as sign off.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Atul.
